Hikers DAN WINGARD
Tribute Devoted enthusiastic supporter of Ouachita Mountain
Hiker (OMH) activities. He led hikes
and shuttled vehicles when asked. Adopted miles 128.8 to 131 of Ouachita Trail (OT)
which he took the utmost care and pride in maintaining. Notched completion of the Ouachita Trail “on his
hiking stick” in May 2003. Wooh! Dan’s deep loud “call of the wild” when
signaling to separated hikers his and fellow hikers’ location on the trail. Inspired chef noted for his tasty catfish fry and
hushpuppy dinners that he so eagerly provided and cooked on several occasions
including at his New members were readily welcomed into the OMH
“family” by Dan’s big smile and warm personality. Gulpha Gorge
cleanup frequent volunteer. Always a gentleman with a good story or pleasant
thing to say. He loved to give the
ladies a big hug when meeting at the parking lot/trailhead! Relished in glory by calling Sadie on a cell phone
atop Dear beloved wife, Sadie, who joined Dan on many
overnight outings, cooking, hiking, shuttling vehicles and enjoying the
camaraderie that Dan so espoused with OMH. PEACE Dan would say, “It’s all
about making memories.” Thanks to all
the great memories you gave me, your “little hiking buddy.” A Big Warm Hug to You, Catfish
