Hikers Hike FLASH September 6, 2010 Greetings Hikers, Hiking season is here
!! The weekly Hike Flash resumes with this message. Important notice: It's time to renew your club membership. Our
"dues year" corresponds with our "hiking year."
Club dues for the 2010/2011 hiking season were due September 1st and
delinquent October 1st. Dues are still only $5 per year per
person. Or take advantage of our new Lifetime Membership of only
$50 per person. You'll never have to remember to pay your dues again and
you will remain on our hike flash email list and Ouachita Mountain Hikers
roster for your lifetime. If you have not already paid your dues,
please send either $5 or $50 to Ouachita Mountain Hikers, P.O. Box 371, Hot
Springs, AR 71902. If you have already paid your $5 and want to become
a lifetime member, send a check for $45. You can also pay your dues to
our Treasurer, Jeannie Eichler, at the welcome back
picnic, but if you do so, please include a note with your payment with name,

HSV 8:00 am DeSoto Club (parking area nearest DeSoto
Blvd) Meet at:
9:00 am Charlton Rec Area (Hwy 270 west of Hot Springs) -- Charlton
campground is right off of US 270, about 15 miles west of Hot Springs (from
intersection of AR 227 N to Mt Pine). This is a day use (fee) area, so
you may want to park outside the gate. Some shuttling will be
required as we are hiking one way. -- We
will picnic at pavilion #1 at Crystal Springs Recreation Area. To get
to Crystal Springs, turn North off of 270 on Crystal Springs Road (a well
marked county road) about 2 - 3 miles east of Charlton CG. Proceed about 1.5
miles to the trail head. Go past the pavilion parking and Day Use Area on the
right, to a second parking area and roofed pavilion structure on left (with
bathrooms). Bring:
Water, hiking boots, trail snacks, insect repellent, and sunscree. Potluck Picnic:
We will follow the hike with a pot luck picnic at Crystal Springs. This
event is a great opportunity for new folks to meet the group and for
old-timers to renew acquaintances. For the pot luck: Also Bring a
potluck dish, your own drink, cups, plates, and utensils. Contact for

9:00 am Gulpha Gorge Campground Bring:
Water; snacks No need to call or check in for this activity; just show
up at Gulpha Gorge at 9:00 Saturday morning.
Club provides litter grabbers, bags, and orange vests for hiway
safety. You will walk a couple of miles in Gulpha
Gorge while performing this service to the National Park. Hot Springs
National Park greatly appreciates our club’s effort in keeping the Gorge
clean. Should
be back by: late morning. Special Note: The first ever OMH Photo Contest has been delayed
until 2011. The organizers of this event are both tied up this fall
with a plethora of family obligations, making them unavailable to complete
the project this year. We will do the contest next year. Photos
from the upcoming season, starting with next week's "Welcome Back"
hike and picnic and through next summer's activity, will be eligible.
